Assam: New Question Paper Format and Evaluation Board for Class 10

GUWAHATI: The education department of Assam has announced several changes to the examination format of the matriculation examination in the state. Announced on Wednesday, November 30, these will come to effect from the tenth examinations next year.

The question paper format has been changed for various subjects in the upcoming examination. The subjects of Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English will now have 50 per cent of the total marks in the form of one-mark questions. The total marks for each subject in the examination have been kept at 100. Out of these 100 marks, questions worth 45 marks has to be objective, 45 marks had to be subjective and the remaining 10 marks will come from the internal assessment of the students by their respective schools. The objective-type questions will have options from which the students have to select the correct option while written answers will be necessary for the subjective ones.

The answer sheets to be used for Mathematics will be different from the rest of the subjects as well as previous formats. These sheets will have a separate answer space on the right side for the answers.

Just like the previous years, the top 10 ranking positions in the examination will be declared by the board.

The next version of the examination will be held in the month of March next year. And the results of the examination will be declared soon after Bohag Bihu in the month of April. According to the department, the new format is in line with the National Education Policy, 2020 passed by the government of India and will benefit the students of the state. The new format makes the examination format easier for students to match with the skill development as mentioned in the policy.

The draft also mentions the creation of PARAKH, a board for the evaluation of the class ten examinations. Assessments will be done on the semester system to help the students as well as the evaluation.
